After a VERY VERY late Friday night and an even earlier morning, Saturday 2nd August (WSO day) was started by trying to wake Kevin from the dead. Banging on his door and then jumping up and down on him in bed were not enough to wake him . A nice cup of tea later (stuck under his nose) and he was partially conscious. After his morning run he came back lovely and sweaty and refreshed for a day of poker.

As usual, traffic on motorways meant we started an hour later than advertised, but some crazy 10 card double flop Omaha Hi/Lo was played to pass the time . The late comers arrive and the first card of the WSO is dealt at 2pm

JK , who is folically challenged, turns to worzil, who is NOT, and says you are the complete opposite to me, arent you?. This brings up a whole *hair* discussion. Dont worry JK, you can always borrow one of Jontys spare wigs

Next time Lloyd comes, I have made a mental note that he MUST sit outside as he always spills his drink on my carpet . Gonna be hard for him in the winter tho, I would imagine.

Whilst playing on the final, a few of the boys started kicking a ball around the garden. Having landed on the roof of the gazeebo 3 or 4 times and then seeing the ball out of the corner of my eye smashing into my plants I shouted at them to stop. This fell of deaf ears and more shouting and screaming went on . I was made to get up out of my seat at the final to go and take their ball away . At which point they started kicking it back and forward to each other so I couldnt get it bastids.

I asked them to stop as they were crushing my plants and we were trying to play some poker here! So they stopped at last. Just as I sit down, LGF walks out into the garden, sees the football and starts kicking it around. No more than 1 min after that he kicks the ball which hits Janine in the hand as she is taking an ashtray off someone, the ashtray smashes to the floor in a trillion pieces (The cats will be picking it out of their paws for months to come). Theres a loud smash and Andrew shouts JK!. All the boys look at me expecting me to explode as Id just told them to stop kicking the ball around and crushing my plants. Lets just say, I was almost ready to scream at someone and its just lucky that it wasnt one of the original 3 playing with the ball that smashed the glass and hurt Janine.

It was also Top Pairs birthday so we brought him a cake shaped as a pair of and stuck candles in it for him to blow out (that kept re-lighting when he blew them out). We all sang happy birthday to him and then scoffed his cake. Happy 25th Birthday to Tim!

A quick run down of the tourney.

The structure is:

150 Freezeout
10,000 start chips
45 min clock
25/25 blinds

The first casualty is out by about 4pm and leaves the building pretty much straight away.

Danny Poker has bluffed his way up to about 25k by this time (mostly from Jokers Full). At one point the clock was put on JF who hit the nut flush on the turn with A9 hearts. Lots of betting then the river card means that the 6 hearts could give Dan a str8 flush. JF bets Dan goes all in for another 20k or so. This would set JF all in if he calls. He passes the nutz after an agonizing 5 min dwell-up and Dan declares he didnt have the str8 flush. A few times before Dan had put JF off a hand where he was ahead on the river and JF always passed.

Deadly Dave, Lovejoy, and Big Ben have their eye on the clock late on in the afternoon as they havent managed to double up and are lowish on chips. It is obvious to all that they are all hoping to either double up or go out so they can make the 50 comp at luton by 9pm. Lovejoy and Big Ben go out before dinner and Deadly goes out after hes eaten his fair share of meat. Deadly is offered salad and says no, just meat for me please

The BBQ was lit at 5pm and by 6pm we were all munching thru half a cow, a whole pig and half a ton of rolls, salad and other nutritious things.

The game gets back underway by 7pm and we are close to two tables. By 8pm-ish we are merged to two tables and people start to drop out pretty quickly one after another before the final.

The finalists (in alphabetical order)

Ali Cheeseman (AwesomeAli)
Jon Curtis (Jonty)
Priscilla Ford
Geoff Henman (The Pebble)
Rick Hole (Rickfish)
Ben Randall (Hero666)
Dan Samson (Danny Poker)
Michael Selzer (Worzil)

Ben is first out of the final in 8th place. After being the first one out in last years WSOC I think he was happy just to reach the final. 2nd out and finishing in 7th place is Michael (Worzil). As we were only paying top 6 finalists, Ben and Michael had to leave the table with only the memory of the 2nd WSOC with them.

Geoff is out in 6th position and collects 150

Jonty is out in 5th position and collects 200. Jonty played some amazing poker at the final table, he has Dan on the ropes and knocks his stack down by half. Dan eventually gets it back tho and knocks Jon out

Im (AwesomeAli) out in 4th position and collect 350. My final hand I look down and see AA so make a medium sized bet. Dan calls, everyone else folds.

Flop TJx rainbow
I Bet all in and Dan calls and turns over KQ.
Dan says give Ali her Ace.
Blank on turn
A on river
Dan makes str8 and it's Ali

Rick finishes in 3rd position and collects 500

Its Heads Up time, Dan has 190k chips and Priscilla has the rest (about 30k). Dan tries to get it over with quickly and makes a mad call with T8o vs KK. The last few crucial hands happen one after another to double Priscilla up (flops trip 6s) and doubles up again.

The final hand. Priscilla has A8 hearts, and raises, dan re-raises all in with A9 spades and Priscilla announces she is calling.

Flop comes 2 hearts and a heart on the river makes her flush

Priscilla has him covered and takes 1st prize and the

A huge well done to Priscilla (who only came for the ). Dan also wanted the and proceeded to sulk and refused to smile when I took some piccies of the final three. Come on Dan, be a good

A 10 freezeout comp is started soon after the big one has finished. Eight of us decide to play while the rest play an Omaha cash game. Within 5 minutes its decided to make it a re-buy tournament with re-buys for 1 hour. When the 1 hour of re-buys is over, the pot is counted and there is 270 in there . Myself and Arberbaut had most of the buy-ins between us and he even had to borrow money from me so he could have a top-up.

There was a ton of food left over, so I made up over 9 doggy bags full of sausages and ribs from the BBQ. They were all taken, so at least the cheeseys wont be eating sausage sarnies for the next 2 weeks .

Special thanks to sandy (our waitress for the day) who put up with all out noise and made the day so much easier for me.

Having been up since 10am Saturday (after only having 3.5 hours sleep night b4), I eventually turn to my pit at 5.30am on Sunday morning. It's always such a long day and tough few days before that for the preparation, but it's all worth it once the day arrives.

All thats left to say is a BIG thank you to everyone who turned up and made the day one of the best days of poker we have every had

AwesomeAli
