Well, first of all, a disappointing turn
out, especially as we had 28 players confirmed on the morning of the game!!
2 emails received on the morning of the game to say 2 players couldn't come due to
one crisis or another (which couldn't be helped). Then a phone call from Pete who
had to go into work so couldn't make it
People start to turn up at 2pm, we start the BBQ and eat our way thru a cow or two
15 minutes to go before we are due to start and we still only have 16 runners!! (Dave
and Debs are on their way so I know we have 18 for definite).
4.05pm - we decide that the other players are not turning up so decide to give them
an hour before they are bumped from the game. Surprisingly, the missing players DON'T
show. (Don't expect an invite in the near future guys!!)
Anyway, I've calmed down a little, Julie (our waitress for the day) is doing most
of the running around for me, so I have 5 mins. to chill before we start.
Tim, Ben, Jamie, Dickster, John and myself all draw the same table and
it's the one outside under the gazebo (YIPPEE!!)
We don't pay much attention to what is going on at the other 2 tables, as all the
action seemed to be at ours!! Or should I say all the laughter .
Ben (Hero666) is the first casualty of the game, closely followed by Narinder and
then John (Willie). As more people go out (mostly taken out by Jamie who is on my
table!) the game becomes more serious.
We break to 2 tables, I deal at one table while they are hand for hand and before
we know it - it's the final!
As only 18 players turned up, we decided to pay the top 5 players and not top 8. So
the battle was still on to get in the money - even tho. they had made the final table.
Jamie, Dickster, Yannis, Raconteur, David F, Debbiefish and Sean made the final table
and after we stuffed our faces with SB&T we
were ready to go again.
I decide to deal so plonk myself at the table and we begin.
We see our first casualty (Jamie, who IMO was in a great position to have won), Next
out is Debbiefish. "Now we are in the money" the final 5 are told
Chips pass back and forth for what seems like an eternity. Dave F is battling to stay
alive and goes all in umpteen times, taking chips (mostly from Yannis).
Yannis is next out (not at all happy about it!!) and wins 100
David is 4th and wins 200 (amazed that he stayed in that long I think)
Sean is 3rd (also done battle with Yannis on a number of occasions) and wins 300
We are now heads up. I request that Jamie alternates the dealing with me to get things
moving. The clock is left at 45 mins., as neither player wants to change it, and we
continue play.
Play is fast and furious, Raconteur and Dickster are even in chips for most of the
heads-up play. On one occassion Raconteur is ahead, then Dickster turns the tables
and he becomes chips leader.
Arthritis is settling in with all the shuffling!! Jamie suggests they do a deal! -
but "no, we want to carry on". So - on we go.
Raconteur wins a HUGE hand when he rivers a straight against Dicksters pocket pair,
leaving Dickster with less than 10% of the chips. Dickster gets "bored" and throws
them in with nothing and it's all over.
We have a winner - Raconteur!
Dickster walks away with 450
Raconteur walks away with 750 and the WSOC
All in all it was a fantastic day. Nice to get some new players in and put names to
faces. And great battle was done at the tables (as it should be).
Shame on you players who never turned up and never even emailed me to apologise .
So much food was wasted, but what the hell, I'm done with my moaning now (thank god,
I hear you cry)
I also want to say a HUGE thank you to Julie who waitressed from 2pm to 2am and never
sat down all day - cheers mate, I couldn't have done it without you
AwesomeAli
