I was apparently nominated to do this months game report, here it is for your enjoyment......

First of all Cheesey Poker extended a warm welcome to new players Heidi, Nadja and Anthony. I hope your first experience of Cheesey Poker was a memorable one, if not for the poker then surely for the good company and well run day, Alison puts in a lot of work for everyone that comes.

Game 1 started with 8 players. It’s the tightest I have seen Derek play for the first 30 minutes of a tournie – well actually, he was 30 minutes late but still, he was tight. He then loosened up a bit (he arrived) and got involved in a few pots his last one worthy of note. Derek picked up AA in mid position and after Richard Prew (Tight End) had called the 200 blind Derek made it 300 more to go. TE being the only one left in pot called. With the flop coming 7 high with 2 clubs TE checked and Derek went all in. Holding K7 clubs TE made the call and the turn made him a flush leaving Derek no outs.

Another hand worthy of note happened soon after Derek’s demise which had Nigel raising 500 with Jacks in early position with Heidi re-raising to 1000 with Kings. The flop gave trips to Nigel and Heidi no real way of getting away from being eliminated.

Richard Yeeles (Gooner) was next to go. Having had one desperate ear on the Radio praying for Arsenal to score he found himself very short stacked with the sharks lining up smelling the blood. I do not remember who took the final bite but we all felt sated after…….getting into the theme, short(ish) stacked Ali got her hooks into Buzz with 10 7 against 55 leaving him a mere tiddler that got gobbled up by the bigger fish. Darren floundered soon after leaving Nigel praying to Cod that he would start picking up cards………………stop it Buzz, the theme has gone too far now. Anyway, with TE holding a sizable chip advantage against Ali and Nigel, it was Nigel who was next out leaving a very watchable heads up encounter between Ali and TE. Ali being out chipped about 5 to 1 did not put her off and she went on to catch some beautiful cards to take first plaice, I mean place.

With the arrival of the rest of the expected full house, apart from Jonty and for some reason Derek who seemed to have gone walkabout, the 2nd game got under way.
Again Derek started unusually tight for first 10 minutes (not there, blah blah…you know the story). Anyways, hard to remember early action but a couple of hands from the other table relayed to me involved Jonty. Apparently he was betting into Darren who was holding quad 2’s only to fold when Darren made a minimum bet after the river. This halved his stack leaving him, soon after, all-in with AJ against AQ. The flop of J J x brought a rather large smile to his face only to be followed by Anthony making runner runner straight to send Jonty runner running from the room. Did he need the toilet that quick or was that a faint scream we heard.

The next two hands featured will be named collectively “Why Do I Do That”.

Nic under the gun calls the blind followed by Chris calling and Ali in BB not wishing to raise. Flop comes down K x x which Ali checked to. Nic bet out resulting in Chris folding and Ali calling. Nic then proceeded to check call to Ali’s betting. Ali turned over the K rag to take the pot and Nic turned over QQ mumbling something about not slow playing UTG. Lesson learnt………..well……later that game… Nic under the gun calls the blind and Ali in BB checks. Flop comes down 5 5 x. Nic bets and Ali calls. Turn blank and Nic bets, this time Ali re-raises all her stack which Nic pauses and eventually calls. When the cards get turned Nic shows KK and Ali 65 off (or as I personally always refer to as “the monster”, you know I am right). Nic then cries “No! why do I slow play these hands”. The river is no help and Nic is out. I think the lesson learnt is not about playing big pairs this way, it’s more about being able to fold them when it goes pair shaped, that is the hardest part – we’ve all been there.

It seems my early demise made Priscilla happy, not because she personally knocked me out but that meant I had to skulk in the corner fixing her Puter (which I managed to do) and, therefore, missed the rest of the game. I am told that with 5 remaining it became a very long game with no one wanting to bubble but eventually Dazza committed suicide and he took that honour. Ali went out 4th to Nadja’s JJ and after that it was over pretty quick with TE winning, Nadja making a very good debut performance taking 2nd and Dave Wicks 3rd.

The last game started with 15 runners and was a jovial affair with good old Buzz leading the Cabaret (as TE referred to it). It must be all that mono-sodium glutamate in the Chinese that causes it, I just think he is nuts.

I would say the most memorable feature of the game was when it got down to 5 players being Priscilla, Derek, Buzz, Jeff and Dazza. Dazza seemed to have more chips than the rest of us collectively and we were all fighting hard not to bubble with blinds high at 800/1600 and all except Dazza virtually down to the cloth in chips at some point.

With Jeff just leaving Buzz short stacked after winning an all-in with 1 live card to hit he was then faced with a button raise from Dazza (again). Jeff pondered and raised to all his chips, which wasn’t much more and Dazza called with AK to Jeff’s A 10. That put Jeff out and was probably the last time Dazza won when being ahead pre-flop, in fact it was probably the only time he won when ahead pre-flop since the 6th person went out.

Buzz was next, a victim to Priscilla’s KK (I wonder if I can unfix that puter) and it was not long after that a key and remarkable hand took place. Derek first to act raised and Dazza who was by now the shortest stack went all in holding AK off. Priscilla pondered her A7 of diamonds but knew she could not be ahead and folded. Derek called one heap of chips more and turned over Q3 diamonds. Needless to say the flush was duly hit and Dazza was out. A more remarkable run of bad beats against one person I have not seen for some time. Heads up between Derek and Priscilla did not last too long with Derek eventually winning out with a proper hand of AQ, who would have thought.

A great day again, thanks again to Ali for being the hostess of such a well run game.

Rick Hill (Buzz)

PS I was going to stay for an hour or so afterwards for the usual after-hours cheeky cash game but Jonty suggested a Dealers Choice tournament (and everyone agreed that would be fun) so I decided that it would probably go on for too long so decided to give it a miss.

Ali will be adding an addendum to the report that I have written, to include the after game antics, which will be posted soon.

Alis' Addendum to Ricks report.....

After half the players had left, TightEnd, Heidi, Jeff, Priscilla, Nadz, Dazza, Buzz and myself were left.

TightEnd was coming down with “man flu” and was flailing. Shame, coz he’s usually good for a donation or two in the early hours. He said he was tired etc etc and was going to go home .

He had kindly picked up Heidi from the station (as she came up from London) and had offered to let her stay the night at his house.

The inevitable question of “where is Heidi spending the night” reared its’ head to which TE quickly replied “in a pink room with fairies, horses and a princess duvet cover“, to which half the room replied… “So, YOUR room then TE”. Oh my .

Moving swiftly on……………

Buzz said that he would stay for some cash action but Jonty decided that the cheeky cash game was not the best idea, so suggested an Omaha tourney.

Everyone agreed, even Bondy was dragged downstairs to play.

Buzz exits, stage left. Taking arms full of prawn crackers with him. (He insists he gives them to the kids – we all know he eats them on the long drive home)

It was then that the trouble began.

“Lets’ play “Drinking Poker” said Priscilla . “I’ve got a bottle of Vodka in the car”. Off went Jonty with the car keys and returned with a 1 litre bottle of Stoli Vodka .

Before the game even started everyone had a shot (or three) of the smooooooth Vodka. Jonty ordered me to get chips – the bigger the denominations the better! I came back with handfuls of 10,000, 5,000 and 1,000 chips.

“OK” said Jonty, “Here’s what we are playing. We are not playing Omaha, we are playing a dealers choice tourney and we are starting with 80,000 chips each. The blinds will go up every ten minutes. Each time a player loses a showdown, he or she must down a shot of Stoli” .

Sounded easy enuff!!

Before too long MOST of us were slaughtered. I say most, because Nadz kept passing when she was in a hand, or she would just fold every hand pre-flop. I wised up to this quite quickly and we had her doing double vodkas as punishment.

The game started off with a few hands of Mugsys Nightmare. We managed to play at least 2 hands per blind level and before you knew it, the game was just at a standstill because everyone was in hysterics at everything and nothing and no poker was being played.

Jonty insisted on manually (ruh roh) pushing the hour hand of the kitchen clock back an hour,
thus creating another hour of “play” . This, however, caused the clock to stop , at which point I screamed at him for breaking it. He offered to pay for it and said that it was a nice clock and he too would pay £80 for a "nice clock like that one".

I think it was 6.45am when I eventually managed to kick them out. Jonty stayed the night as he was waaaaaaaaay over the limit and wanted to play more poker!!! “But everyone has gone” I told him and ordered him to bed – asking if he wanted a bucket to take with him (just in case). As he wandered up the stairs you could hear him saying "what about a game of Monopoly or, perhaps, scrabble". "NO! - go to bed!!!"

I had an absolute blast, I was so knackered that I didn’t even tidy up before I went to bed like I usually do. I thought the fairies might have done it when I went downstairs the next afternoon. Alas, no fairies (they were obviously all still in TEs bedroom)
