Free Shows that I have come across are listed below. There are MANY other free
shows that I have not seen but as I come across them or hear about them - I will list
them here so you can see them too!
So, a quick rundown of each one, in no particular order....
Caesars Palace
Walk through the Casino Entrance and follow signs to "Forum Shops". When you reach
the shops you will eventually come to a split in the walkway. Right turn takes
you to Las Vegas Boulevard (The Strip) and left takes you to more shops. Take
the left turn and you will come to a large circle of shops. In the centre of
this circle there is a very large fish tank holding marine fish. Stand in this
area and you will not be disappointed. There is a free show every hour, on the
hour between the hours of 10am and 11pm. It is called "The Fall of Atlantis"
and was the second best free show I saw. Very dramatic with lots of
fire and water and explosions. A must see.
The Bellagio
That brings me onto the BEST free show I have seen. The Bellagio water fountain
shows are spectacular - out of this world. You may have seen them in movies
and thought "WOW". Seeing it on TV and actually being there are quite different.
The speakers are so loud that the song almost gets inside you. The floor vibrates
and as the fountains do their work, you are mesmerised. The shows will start
(usually) every 15 minutes. High winds, however, will postpone shows.
You need to get there just as a show finishes to ensure the best viewing
spot possible and stand there patiently waiting for the next show to start.
You won't be disappointed.
The Rio
Another great free show is the carnival type floats that glide around
the ceiling of the casino with dancing girlies and half naked men at The Rio.
At the same time, you have more dancers on the stage below. At certain times
of the year you can even pay a small fee and be part of the show and glide around
in the floats. The whole show lasts about 20 minutes and from start to finish
it is fabulous. Both times I have been there, the show was every hour, not entirely
sure if this is the norm. or not.
Treasure Island
Appauling - don't bother! You will get crushed and punched and bitten round
the ankles by small children. If you insist on going then you need to arrive
at least 50 minutes early. This does not guarantee a good viewing spot though.
Shows start at 5.30pm and are every 90 minutes after that, until 11.30pm. Any
sort of cold weather or a slight wind will cause the show to cancel.
One thing I did notice is that if you are actually staying at the Treasure Island
Hotel, you get to go to the VIP viewing area directly on the bridge that runs across
the middle of the water. It was still jam packed though, so bear this in mind
before setting your heart on seeing this show.
The Mirage
Their erupting volcano which goes off every 15 minutes after dark (and stops at midnight)
is a good one to watch. They have actually improved it since my last trip.
It goes on a bit longer now and is somewhat brighter than before. Another must
see if you are down that part of the strip.
Circus Circus
If it weren't for the hundreds of kiddies that stay at this hotel/casino, then I would
spend more time here. I saw TWO free shows here but I would bet there are others.
The first show I saw was the trapese artists (not bad) and quite scary in parts.
The second show is harder to explain, but I will do my best. You see two men
dressed in white lycra suits, their hands, feet and faces are also painted white.
They do a routine that looks impossible to do. They basically get into positions
where they balance one on the other ones head etc but every movement is done extremely
slowly. It's like watching them doing everything in slow motion and it's
fascinating to watch. This is the sort of show that you have to see to believe.
The Venetian
This hotel has an operatic theme (as you would expect). If you take a ride on
a gondola, you will be sung to by the person doing the "driving". If you walk
through their shops, you come across miniature plays being carried out with opera
being sung. This is done in a rather large "Town Square" setting and the voices
of the singers carries right round the whole area. Really good, if you like
that sort of thing.
The Tropicana
Has an Air Show (so I am told my Rick who is going to do a short write up about it
for me to add here)
Freemont Street, Downtown
The Freemont Street Experience is another must see. The show runs every hour
on the hour. They have a wide range of different shows for you to see.
It's basically a massive tunnel of lights up the whole length of Freemont Street.
The light shows usually last approx 5 minutes. They are clever and have people
going "oooooooo" and "aaaaaa" at will.
When you have seen a show, you should go and find the spray paint man. Not really
a show as such but what he does is spray paints pictures out on Freemont Street for
all to see. He sells them as he finishes for anything between $35 and $65.
More a man earning a living than a show, but great to watch.
